Captain George Smith, inspector of the Royal Artillery Academy at Woolwich and compiler of a Universal Military Dictionary. He was a leading freemason who made himself unpopular by urging that women should be allowed to set up lodges. He was born in Kildwick, Yorkshire in 1727.
